In the same spirit in which it was originally set it up by its founder Mr Sid Cooper, a local peripatetic music teacher, the band continues to offer young musicians the opportunity to experience the enjoyment of the concert band setting. It’s a proven fact that playing in a band improves your playing, and so the band had developed many ways of engaging with young musicians, schools and teachers.
A number of our members are experienced teachers and can come into schools and hold special music assemblies. These have been very enthusiastically received by schools & pupils alike, and helped generate increased excitement about music in the schools where they’ve been held.

Primary School Workshop & Mini Concert
The format of this event is an afternoon rehearsal at a local primary school, specifically focused on our Training Band. The band’s experienced players are on hand to support the young musicians through a programme of music from Disney to Lady Gaga, and at the end of the rehearsal a short informal concert is performed to showcase how well the youngsters have taken to the music and to the concert band setting.
These popular events have been held at a number of local schools, including Millfields Wivenhoe, Colchester High School, Chappel Primary School, and Richard De Clare school, Halstead.
